How To Setup Raid Windows 10

Hello Phil

I am Dave, an Contained Advisor, I will assistance yous with this . . .

It depends on whether your SATA Controller on your motherboard supports RAID Arrays, have you checked that in BIOS?

On Windows x Abode information technology is advised to use the Windows ten Storage Spaces functionality instead of RAID, it is more than reliable, more uniform and easier to prepare . . .

Yep, just I recommend against information technology.

RAID 1 (mirroring) is *not* a backup solution. RAID one uses two or more drives, each a duplicate of the others, to provide back-up, not backup. Information technology's used in situations (almost always within corporations, not in homes) where any downtime tin't exist tolerated, considering the way it works is that if i drive fails the other takes over seamlessly.

Although some people thing of RAID one as a backup technique, that is *not* what it is, since it'southward subject to simultaneous loss of the original and the mirror to many of the most common dangers threatening your data--severe power glitches, nearby lightning strikes, virus attacks, theft of the computer, etc. Most companies that utilize RAID one also have a potent external fill-in plan in place.

Ken Blake – Cheers for your answer. In reference to Windows 10 Abode and a Raid 1 setup, I have non been able to get it to work. I tried using "Storage Spaces" too as going through a normal Raid 1 setup with no success in either case.

Regarding Raid 1 back-up vs backup, I backup my drive on a quarterly basis. Even so, I have used a Raid i configuration for many years considering I feel I accept saved a meaning amount of time but replacing a bad drive and letting the system rebuild the new disk drive. For me, I adopt to use the Raid 1 choice vs. going through a recovery when I have a hard drive no longer working. It is just a preference on my role.

Hello Dave

Your proposition of looking at the BIOS prompted me to dig a trivial deeper in to setting upwards the RAID i configuration.  Initially, I couldn't get the new difficult drive to format and when I went into the BIOS I didn't have any options for setting up the RAID one configuration which stopped my progress.  Once I was able to become the new hard bulldoze formatted, I was able to go dorsum into the BIOS and select the appropriate settings to configure the RAID ane setup.

Information technology looks as if I was successful at getting the RAID i setup and working.

Give thanks you lot for your help.

Accept intendance,

Phil
